Szeged is one of Hungary's most attractive regional cities, with an Art Nouveau-lined centre and the Tisza river close by. The University of Szeged is one of the country's leading higher-education institutions, giving the city a very high proportion of students. The centre is organised around Dóm tér and Széchenyi tér, with plenty of cafés and restaurants.
The city is compact, and most key locations are easily reached on foot or by bike.
Getting around
Szeged's transport network is built around trams and trolleybuses, supplemented by a dense bus service. Direct trains run from the railway station to Budapest, with the journey taking around two and a half hours.
