Belváros-Lipótváros is the heart of Budapest, home to the Parliament building, St Stephen's Basilica and Váci utca. It is densely built up, mostly with elegant older apartment blocks, and packed with shops, restaurants and offices. It is the most touristed part of the city, so it can be especially lively and crowded in summer and at weekends.
Flats here tend to be smaller and pricier, in exchange for having everything within walking distance, from workplaces to cultural venues.
Getting around
Almost every major transport line passes through the district: metro lines M1, M2 and M3 all meet at Deák Ferenc tér, and numerous tram and bus routes also cross the city centre.
