Újpest sits in the northern part of Pest and, true to its name, once developed as an independent town, with its own distinctive centre, market and pedestrian street. The district has a mixed character, combining older streets of family houses, panel housing estates and newer, more modern riverside developments along the Danube.

Getting around
The backbone of the district is the M3 metro line, connecting Újpest-Városkapu and Újpest-Központ to the city centre. A railway station and several tram and bus routes also serve the area.
